O consumo de mel é importante por diversas razões que vão além do seu sabor doce e agradável. O mel é rico em açúcares naturais (frutose e glicose), que fornecem energia rápida e eficiente. Com a crescente demanda pela busca por produtos naturais objetivou-se com a pesquisa analisar como é feita a comercialização do mel no município de Pontal do Araguaia-MT, quais são os hábitos de consumo por parte dos moradores, quais seus padrões de escolha no momento de adquirir o mel, assim como seus conhecimentos acerca do produto que estão consumindo. A pesquisa foi realizada através de questionários aplicados à população, com um total de 117 entrevistado, e visitas feitas aos centros de comercialização. O estudo destaca a importância do conhecimento da procedência do mel, e a relação da frequência de consumo associada à falta de informações sobre o produto e sua disponibilidade no mercado.

The consumption of honey is important for several reasons that go beyond its sweet and pleasant taste. Honey is rich in natural sugars (fructose and glucose), which provide quick and efficient energy. With the growing demand for the search for natural products, the objective of the research was to analyze how honey is sold in the municipality of Pontal do Araguaia-MT, what are the consumption habits of residents, what are their choice patterns at the moment to acquire honey, as well as their knowledge about the product they are consuming. The research was carried out through questionnaires applied to the population, with a total of 117 respondents, and visits made to marketing centers. The study highlights the importance of knowing the origin of honey, and the relationship between the frequency of consumption associated with the lack of information about the product and its availability on the market.
